The Highland Companies Withdraws its Application for a Quarry in Melancthon Township

MELANCTHON TOWNSHIP, November 21, 2012 — The Highland Companies (Highland) announced today that it is withdrawing its application to develop a quarry in Melancthon Township. Highland also intends to discontinue its efforts to restore the rail corridor through Dufferin County. In addition, Highland announced that John Lowndes has resigned from his role as President and has no further involvement with the company.

“While we believe that the quarry would have brought significant economic benefit to Melancthon Township and served Ontario’s well-documented need for aggregate, we acknowledge that the application does not have sufficient support from the community and government to justify proceeding with the approval process,” said John Scherer of The Highland Companies.

Highland will continue to focus on its farms and on supplying its customers with high quality potatoes and other crops. The company is proud of the improvements it has made through modernizing equipment and storage facilities as well as enhancing food and worker safety.

This team danced its way brilliantly against very stiff competition to win the coveted Palais Royale Grand Trophy at the Annual Colours of the Rainbow Dancing Classrooms Finals held this past June.

Casa Loma Unveils Upgrades

TORONTO Casa Loma, the 100-year-old castle, museum, and event venue long popular with tourists, planners, and film crews, debuted interior renovations at a party last night. The spruced-up 20th-century castle from Pegasus Hospitality Group now has new window treatments, patio furniture, wall sconces, chandeliers, and refinished flooring in the three main event spaces: the Library, Great Hall, and Conservatory. The company also outfitted the kitchen and downstairs café with new equipment.

In addition to the interior renovations, there were several announcements. Guests at the castle will have access to Wi-Fi starting in June, air-conditioning will be installed in the Library and Conservatory this summer, and event hours will be extended until 1 a.m., a request that venue managers had recently been receiving more frequently.

STING Graces Palais Royale Stage

On Monday October 31st, 2011, musical royalty graced the stage at Palais Royale. Sting gave a private performance for a birthday party of 180 very fortunate guests. He played hits such as ‘Message in a Bottle’ ‘Fields of Gold’ ‘Roxanne’ and ‘Every Breath you Take’ among others. He captivated the room with his magic and unique genius. It was a night of sheer pleasure, and it was an honour for us to have him perform here at Palais Royale.

Glenn Miller Orchestra Performs at Palais Royale

The Glenn Miller Orchestra graced the stage of Palais Royale August 9th and what a sound! It was like going back in time to the era when Miller himself played at the “Pally”. Under the musical direction of Gary Tole, people danced to famous tunes such as “A String of Pearls”, “In the Mood”, “Pennsylvania 6-5000″ and they ended the evening with “Moonlight Serenade”. Funds were raised to Benefit the University of Toronto Epilepsy Research Program.
Chef Steffan Howard created a sumptuous meal to start the evening.
It was a magical night, we’d like to have them back again.

Industry Partner Recognition Award presented to Pegasus Hospitality Group at Palais Royale

George Brown College, Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts, presented Pegasus Hospitality Group at Palais Royale with the 2011 Industry Partner Recognition Award on Wednesday, March 30th at their Student Success and Industry Recognition Awards Event. The award was presented by John Walker the Dean of Hospitality to Executive Chef Steffan Howard, accepting on behalf of Pegasus Hospitality Group.

This Award is presented to Industry Partners who provide an outstanding externship environment by showing leadership, guidance and direction to the students in the Hospitality and Culinary Arts programs. The Industry Partners’ support and participation provide their externship students with invaluable experience. Pegasus Hospitality Group was recognized for their support and involvement, spearheaded by Executive Chef Steffan Howard, in the Assistant Cook Extended Training Program.

Big Band Valentine’s Dance

I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentine’s Day. Everyone here at Palais Royale danced the night away on Saturday night to the music of the Swing Shift Big Band Orchestra. Together with the fabulous vocals of Glenn Chipkar, they created the sound reminiscent of Palais Royale back in the 30’s and 40’s when it was the hottest dance hall in Toronto…
And to top off the night, a really touching moment during the dance was when Steve proposed to Heather on stage… And she said YES!
Congratulations to both of you and we wish you many happy Valentine’s dances in your future…
